August 15, 2012

The Trinity Lutheran College Lady Eagles began their 2012 campaign in convincing fashion with a 5-0 win over the Bellevue College Bulldogs Tuesday night at Lincoln Field.

Thommasen, Ellis, ErikssonJunior Brianna Ellis began the scoring by getting on the end of a Shey Thommasen cross in the 17th minute. Junior Tiffany Thomas was able to add to the score line just before half time by finishing a lofted through ball by Freshman Malin Eriksson, over the back of the Bulldogs’ back line in the 45th minute.

The Eagles, who enjoyed a 15-3 first half shooting advantage, put the “gas-pedal” down in the second half.  Goals occurred in the 60th minute by junior Kaeli Eberth (assisted by Ellis), the 62nd minute by Thommasen, and the 73rd minute by Eriksson (assisted by Senior Jaimie Menchaca), putting the game well in hand and allowing the Eagles to gain their first victory of the season.

“Tonight’s game was just a reflection of how training camp has gone,” said coach Shannon Murray after the game.

“These ladies came to camp with a tremendous attitude, work ethic, and pride in what we are doing.  They have trained hard together and played well together tonight.  We showed that we can defend well and that we have multiple players who can score goals.  Over all it was a very good start to our season.”

The Eagles, whose final totals from the game included a 26-4 shot advantage, now begin preparations for their next match on Thursday night, August 16 at Western Washington University. The match with Western begins a string of four consecutive matches on the road for the Lady Eagles before returning home for an August 31 home match against Rocky Mountain College.
