October 10, 2012
People throughout Everett are collecting hundreds of pairs of new, warm adult socks to donate to homeless and low-income community members at the second annual “Socktoberfest” celebration at Trinity Lutheran College on October 21 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m.
That evening local residents and members of Everett’s homeless community will gather to enjoy live music and share bratwurst, locally brewed root beer, fun and door prizes. Socks will be distributed to all who need them that evening.
Socktoberfest began last year after Everett Public Library employee Debbie Paget learned firsthand from a group of homeless community members whom she met at the library of their need for warm socks during the cold winter months. Paget and members of the Trinity Lutheran College community addressed that need by holding the first Socktoberfest on October 30, 2011. The first event distributed over 1,000 pairs of socks to those who attended.
This year socks are again being collected throughout Everett. Anyone interested in helping may donate new adult pairs of socks at collection bin locations across Everett including:
Cash donations toward the purchase of socks are also welcomed. Checks should be mailed or dropped off at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, PO Box 2927, Everett, WA 98213. Please write “Socktoberfest” in the memo line. 100% of donated money will go toward socks or a hot meal for those who attend this year’s event.
