Overview

The B.A. in Social Work provides an opportunity for students to fulfill their vocation of Christ-like service through the professional application of knowledge, skills, and values. The program provides a generalist degree that prepares students for entry level social work positions and integrates well with other programs at Trinity.

Trinity’s program prepares social work professionals to advocate for individuals and institutions in a rapidly developing society by being anchored in biblical foundations and the inspiration of a personal loving God who cares for all persons, whom God created with freedom of choice. The baccalaureate social work program at Trinity Lutheran College educates students for entry level generalist social work practice and prepares them to 1) develop skills in a professional change process to enhance the well-being of people; 2) promote the values, ethics and goals of the social work profession and; 3) discern a vocation of servant leadership honoring social justice.

Courses in the major provide students with comprehensive skills to work with all population groups - children, youth, the elderly and families.  The goals of the baccalaureate social work program at Trinity Lutheran College are:

  •  To prepare students to be competent servant leader generalist practitioners drawing on their spiritual beliefs and the ethics and values of the social work profession.

  • To prepare students to be self-reflective critical thinkers informed by knowing the causes of social and economic injustices.

  • To prepare students for social transformative advocacy practices in diverse communities with persons on the margins of society: the aged, diverse populations, the voiceless and the forgotten.
