President John W. Reed

President John W. ReedJohn W. Reed was elected president of Trinity Lutheran College in May 2010 after serving nine months as Chief Executive Officer. He assumed his new role July 1, 2010, and was inaugurated Oct. 16, 2010.

Under Reed’s leadership, the college has created and implemented a three-year strategic plan, achieved significant enrollment growth and moved toward increased financial health. Reed has been instrumental in developing new majors while also boosting under-enrolled programs. He hosts the President’s Leadership Lecture Series, which welcomes regional and national leaders to campus several times each year, and he’s known in the community for his innovative leadership and partnerships with other organizations.

Reed’s experience in higher education leadership includes serving as Director of Enrollment Management at Whitworth College, Spokane, Wash. and Vice President of Enrollment Management at Linfield College, McMinnville, Ore. He also serves as an executive consultant with Noel-Levitz, where for over 22 years he has provided leadership and management consulting, supporting colleges like Biola University, Azusa Pacific University and North Park University (Chicago) in developing comprehensive strategies to increase student enrollment and retention and to improve overall institutional planning and leadership. In addition, Reed teaches courses in Capella University’s online educational leadership program.

Reed formerly served as president of NBC Basketball Camps in Spokane, Wash., the country’s largest residential sports camp program. He also founded Higher Hoops, a nonprofit organization that teaches basketball, life lessons and character development to youth.

Reed holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Idaho and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Whitworth College. He also completed the Summer Institute for Management and Leadership in Education through the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He’s a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Mill Creek, Wash., and enjoys spending time with his two grown children, golfing, or preparing for a summer triathlon.
