Cross-Country team to send two athletes to nationals

Eagles complete nationally for the second year in a row

The Trinity Lutheran College Cross-Country team will send two athletes to compete at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship held at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio this Saturday, November 10.

Lloyd Byram, a freshman from Renton’s Hazen High School, and Brandon Jenkins, a transfer from Whatcom Community College and a graduate of Lynden High School and the team’s captain, will be the first two men to represent the Eagles at the National Championship. Last year, in the schools inaugural season, Junior Kathryn Schaefer was the first runner to represent the Eagles at the National meet regardless of gender.

Byram and Jenkins qualified for the National meet through their performances during the team’s regular season schedule. Jenkins wasted little time punching his ticket to Nationals by qualifying at the team’s first 8-kilometer competition at the Sundodger Invite. Byram qualified with his strong showing at the team’s final regular season competition at the Emerald City Invite.

The competition held on the Cedarville University Campus at the school’s Elvin R. King Cross-Country Course will begin with the women’s 5-kilometer competition at 10:00am (EST). Byram and Jenkins will compete at 10:45am (EST) in the 8-kilometer race. If weather permits, the race will be webcast live and can be viewed by visiting
